SILENT AUCTION - US OPEN TICKETS IN USTA & NIKE SUITE!

BID UPDATE (June 30 @ 11:00 pm) - We have one bid in for the US Open tickets at $1,000. To increase this bid between now and Sunday night, July 5, please e-mail Brian Loomis at bloomis@thprd.com. Scroll down to see which sites will have the bid sheets next week. Bids close at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 12.

The Greater Portland Tennis Council (GPTC) is a non-profit Community Tennis Association dedicated to promoting tennis throughout the Greater Portland Metro Area. Our main fundraising effort is the GPTC/Nike Oregon State Tennis Championships held in July. In addition to this tournament, we also have a Silent Auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to the GPTC to help fund area tennis programs.

The main item up for bid is something that most tennis fans would simply die for! The GPTC, in conjunction with the USTA/PNW Section, is putting up for auction two tickets to the President’s Suite at the 2009 US Open on Thursday, September 3. Included in this package is the following:

  • Invitation for two individuals to be guests of USTA President Lucy Garvin on Thursday, September 3, 2009.
  • Lunch in the President’s Dining Room
  • Seating in the USTA President Courtside Box
  • Hospitality in the USTA President Suite during the session.
  • Access to Courtside Seating in Louis Armstrong Stadium and access to the Grandstand and all other courts.

Now normally, this would be enough to bid on. However, in 2009 we have added just a bit more, thanks to our friends at Nike.

 IN ADDITION…

Nike has generously offered two tickets to the Nike Suite on Friday, September 4, 2009. These may also be used during the day session and you will have access to the Nike Suite, Louis Armstrong Stadium, the Grandstand, and all outer courts. Hospitality is included in the Nike Suite.

This opportunity is simply too good to pass up. You get exclusive suite tickets on not just one, but two days of the 2009 US Open!!! Who knows who you might bump into while enjoying the very exclusive USTA and Nike suites? The only way you will know who you will see and what an amazing experience this will be is if you are the highest bidder.

The minimum bid for these exclusive tickets to the USTA suite on September 3 and Nike suite on September 4 is $1,000.

Bidding will open at the Junteenth tournament and the Grand Opening of the new outdoor courts at the Portland Tennis Center from Thursday, June 25-Sunday, June 28. The ending bid from PTC will be posted on our website and then, the bidding will move to an electronic bid for one week from Monday, June 29-Monday, July 6. All electronic bids during this time should be e-mailed to Brian Loomis at bloomis@thprd.com. Updated bids will be posted on the GPTC website

Finally, the bidding will be live once again at the GPTC/Nike Oregon State Tennis Championships. The bidding will be at the following locations:

Tuesday, July 7-Wednesday, July 8 – Mt. Park Racquet Club (Senior Men’s Divisions)

Thursday, July 9-Friday, July 10 – West Hills Racquet Club (Senior Women’s Divisions)

Saturday, July 11-Sunday, July 12 – Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (Open and NTRP Divisions)

The bidding will stop at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 12 and the highest bidder at that time will get to enjoy a once in a lifetime experience at the 2009 US Open in New York City!

Plan on attending the opening of the new outdoor courts at the Portland Tennis Center and the GPTC/Nike Oregon State Tennis Championships!

Who the GPTC Supports
Here are some of the tennis groups that the GPTC gives financial support to:

*High School Tennis grants - The GPTC knows that there are some expenses associated with high school tennis programs. With school budgets tightening, the GPTC has teamed up with Players Racquet Shop West to offer $50 vouchers to high school coaches to use for balls or accessories for their teams. Every year, the GPTC offers up to 20 of these vouchers for coaches in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington county. If you are interested in obtaining a voucher for your team, please contact GPTC President Dana Barnes at danabarnes10s@comcast.net.

*Special Olympics Programs - The GPTC teams up with local Parks and Recreation programs and helps them run Special Olympics programs. Some of the funds the GPTC provides are used to purchase equipment and supplies to help run these programs. The Lake Oswego Tennis Center has become an avid supporter of Special Olympics and has used the GPTC to help continue their successful program.

* T is for Tennis - This is a new program started up in the Beaverton area for at-risk preschool kids. Under direction of the GPTC, T is for Tennis was able to obtain a grant from the USTA to help get off the ground and purchase basic supplies and equipment for teaching tennis.

* World Team Tennis - The GPTC oversees the Portland World Team Tennis League. Shawn Alford runs the league and funds from the GPTC, along with team fees and help from the Portland Parks & Recreation, help make World Team Tennis one of the most enjoyable tennis activities in the summer! For more information on World Team Tennis, please contact Shawn Alford at wtt@greaterportlandtenniscouncil.com.
